Brooks Woodworks Newsletter March 2008 ________________________________________________________________________
And what is this thing they call March Madness? For those into basketball, the college teams are going at it trying to win the championships. As for the weather, its the madness in trying to guess how to dress for the day. In the morning you have the heater on, by lunch it is shirt sleeves, and the afternoon has you turning on the air conditioner in the car. So, you guess tomorrow will be similar, but no way. Instead spring arrives and gives you a warm day all day long. Ok, so you get the hint and dress a bit cooler. But then, a late storm arrives and you get chilly wind and rain. Hmm, does anyone see a pattern here? Neither do I.
Well you know sping is not too far away when the almond trees have stopped blooming and are leafing out. The flowers are budding out all over and new growth is appearing on the trees and bushes. Ok, so now it is time for all the allergy sufferers to ...look for a Kleenex. Ahh, spring in California.
The spring weather does make it easier to work in the shop, or at least sometimes it does. Some days, you just want to play hookey and enjoy the weather instead. Despite that, I did complete the Bathroom Cabinet I mentioned last month. A strong and heavy cabinet, but it will last for many years. Plus with all that storage space, it is time to stock up on tissues and allergy medication.
In March, I completed the building of the Bathroom Cabinet. The cabinet provides a large amount of storage without taking up additional space in the bathroom. The cabinet is fastened to the wall using the french cleat system.
I am still designing the fireplace mantel that I will be building soon. I believe I have a design for the pilasters (columns), and now need to finish the main section as well.
I also plan on building that Adirondack chair shortly as well. With spring on the way, it will make a nice seat to enjoy the mild breezes and warmer days.
A few of the future items include some additional storage solutions, like boxes and bookcases.
As always, keep watching this newsletter for updates on all projects during 2008.
This month, the Bathroom Cabinet was completed.

Well, sometimes the best laid plans go astray. My initial plans for March included a fireplace mantel. However, between the design research and work on the bathroom cabinet, That has been pushed back a few weeks. I should get the design done shortly, and hopefully begin building it before the end of April
