Brooks Woodworks Newsletter June 2007 _____________________________________________________________________________________
Ahh June, the official start of summer. The days are sunny and hot, the days are long, the kids are out of school, and all the outdoor activities are in full gear. While we have had more gusty days than usual, it can provide some relief from the heat. Well, at least in California it is a dry heat.
Life in the shop has continued on as well. Some days the shop is pleasantly in the low 80's, other days have been in the mid 90's. Despite that, work continues on several projects. A few tables here, a cabinet there, and all of a sudden them month is almost over. Amazing how that happens.
As I noted in my last newsletter, June 2007 is the one year anniversary of Brooks Woodworks. In celebration, we have added a new product line to our selection. Yes, you have to read further to know what it is. But, I think many of you will like these, as it is something most of us use every day. So, as the saying goes, on with the show.
Thanks to the Thorsen Table Challenge on Lumberjocks.com, I will have a couple of busy weeks ahead. First, I am building a matched set end tables. While these will be a similar mission style like the End Table from the challenge, they will feature a solid table top. The base will also be slightly bigger, but the table top itself will remain 16 inches squared. These tables will be made from Red Oak.
While I am constructing the end tables, I will also be building a small free standing cabinet for the same customer. This will be used to house their PC next to their desk. The styling will be similar to the existing desk. This should be completed by the time the next month's newsletter is published.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Print Stand has been completed. The stand is made from Oak, and is 36" tall, 8" wide, and 10" deep. This stand will display two pieces of art, one on each end. After showing it off, some people mentioned it could be used as a plant holder as well. Some time in the future, I would like build a few different sized stands based on this same design. The new stands could be used for plants, letters, framed works, etc.
Keep watching for updates in the next few newsletters.
As noted above, the Print Stand has now been completed, with a picture and description posted on the web site.
OK, so as promised, there has been some new additions to the web site. Brooks Woodworks is now offering turned pens and pencils. The first set of items include:
- Artist Pencil
- Woodworkers Clip Pencil
- Woodworkers Large Pencil
- Cigar Pen
- European Style Pen
- Slim Line Pen
As part of our one year anniversary celebration, these pens feature free shipping within the continental US. These pens make excellent gifts for birthdays, graduations, or any other gift giving occasion. These pens are turned when ordered, so please allow 2-3 weeks lead time for each order.
Be sure to check our web site for pictures of all the items built to date.
With the completion of the Print Stand and Artist Pencil, Brooks Woodworks now has quite the line of items for the artist or decorator. As someone noted, one item is till missing from the artist line. The addition of picture frames will help artist line. These frames would be made in such a way as to allow an artist to simply slip their canvas into the frame, without the need for additional fitting and matting. Of course, this will only work on standard sized canvases. I am currently researching picture framing and working on a few designs for this new product. If you have any suggestions, please send them to email@example.com.
As before, I am still working to introduce more items in our giftable product line. So far, suggestions have included planters, cutting boards, storage boxes, shelves, and other home decorating items. Keep watching this newsletter for information on these items as they are built.
If you have any additional product recommendations, send your suggestions to
firstname.lastname@example.org. Hopefully, we will be able to build most of your dream items in 2007.
As always, we like to thank you for reading my newsletter. If you have any suggestions on items you would like to see added to the newsletter, please let me know at email@example.com.
Until next month, stay well and enjoy.
