Brooks Woodworks Newsletter January 2008 ________________________________________________________________________
January, and a new year just begun. Ok, I don't know about you, but to me January seems like a separate period itself. In the corporate world, January is usually used for closing the previous year's books, writing reviews, and preparing for the new year. One minute you are working on last year's stuff, and the next you are working on something for this year. On the personal side, tax preparations are beginning, but they are for the last year's taxes. Is this item for 2007 or 2008? Where is that missing receipt? And we were supposed to begin that task when? It is enough to confuse anyone!
In the shop, January is just another month to build things. The types of projects may change, but the production goes on. I spent January working on a few projects in the shop. I build a rolling cabinet to hold some recently purchased tools. This gave me some space on my assembly table so I could begin working on a Franklin chair (look for more about this in next month's newsletter). By using some existing lumber, I will eventually have some extra space in the shop. This will allow me to build more projects. And so the cycle goes.
I am also beginning to schedule projects for the next few months. I am currently working on designs for a set of nested tables, as well as a fireplace mantle. After that, a few more storage projects are on the horizon, as well as some other chairs and tables. Now if I can only remember which year to write on my documents...
I still have about 20 of my 2008 calendars left. If you are interested in a free calendar, please send me your name and mailing address. This offer is limited to the next 20 people only, so send your request to email@example.com and I will mail you a free calendar.
January was devoted to building a rolling cabinet for some new shop tools (planer and oscillating spindle sander). The cart allows me to store both items in the same amount of space, move it around when needed, and provides additional space from a cleaned off assembly table.
The second project I began is a Franklin Chair. This chair is attributed to Ben Franklin, and is both a chair and step ladder in one. I am building this chair from Pine, and should have pictures of it for the next newsletter.
Other items still on my list include an Adirondack chair and a few more end tables. I am also working on a design for a fireplace mantle, bookcases, and a few more storage items. In the next few weeks, I should identify a few more projects as well.
Keep watching this newsletter for updates on all of the new projects for 2008.
There are no new projects posted for this month.
Be sure to check our web site for pictures of all the items built to date.
As noted in the shop projects, I have a few items scheduled for February. I am still planning my production schedule and potential projects for the next few months. I will probably add a few smaller projects as well, such as DVD storage boxes and such.
If you have any additional product recommendations, send your suggestions to
firstname.lastname@example.org. Hopefully, I can build some of these dream items in 2008.
As always, we like to thank you for reading my newsletter. If you have any suggestions on items you would like to see added to the newsletter, please let me know at email@example.com.
Until next month, stay well and enjoy.
