Brooks Woodworks Newsletter August 2006 _____________________________________________________________________________________
Well the dog days of summer have finally arrived. The weather has turned, and the kids are heading back to school. With the end of summer, our thoughts here have turned to …furniture. Yes, all of our latest requests have all been for indoor furniture. You can learn more about these projects by reading our Shop Notes below. In the meantime, sit back, relax, and enjoy what is left of summer.
New construction has begun with the addition of several new projects. We also completed the Painter’s Box we began in July. This box is designed to hold a painter’s paints and brushes, as well as a couple of canvas pictures. This box was made of Red Oak and accented with Purple Heart. Please see the Painter’s Box web page for further details.
The first new project was an Oak Quilt Rack was completed and delivered in August. You can view pictures of the quilt rack here on our website.
The next project in production is a solid maple table. This table is a reproduction of an antique table, but modified to be pub table height (42 inches tall). The table will feature a light colored top, and black legs. Look for pictures of this table to appear in late September.
Following the table, we will be building another bedroom storage bench. This Oak and Oak plywood bench will be a different design than the Bench Chest we previously built. It will be slightly narrower, and feature raised panels for the base.
While still in the discussion phase, our fourth new project is expected to be a wall bed. In the past, these were known as Murphy Beds. However, the older spring lifts have been replaced with pistons that weigh less. Also, these designs allows for these beds to be installed without attaching it to the floor. Thus, the bed can be moved around without removing the carpet or flooring underneath. This promises to be our most exciting and challenging project to date!
Our product list has grown with the addition of the Quilt Rack mentioned above. The quilt rack is made of solid red oak. The one pictured has a lite cherry stain, to coordinate with the owner’s Mission Style bed set. The satin varnish finish provides a nice protective highlight to color and wood grain found in this rack.
Our feedback has been light lately, but very informing. One customer noticed our order form was not displaying on our web site. This has now been corrected, and the form will now display. We still do not have on line ordering available, so simply print the form, write the products you want, and mail it and your payment to our address. Please be sure to include your email address so we can contact you for questions regarding your order.
