Brooks Woodworks Newsletter                                                                       April 2007 _____________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to April. We have all heard the saying “April showers bring May flowers” since our childhoods. Sure enough, while the month started out dry and warm, the rains came. Of course, some days felt more like winter than early spring, but that happens. As April closes out, we finally start our transition to spring, or summer for some of us. Everything is in bloom, and growth is everywhere. The days are much longer than last month, and generally warmer as well. All in all, it has been a good change of pace from the past few months.

While the weather may be in transition, things in the shop have been more chaotic. We completed the Artist Painting Table, and delivered it during the first week of April. After a short pause to catch our breath, we began on a couple of new items. Somewhere along the way, someone forgot to mention that you can still catch a cold in spring. The last week has been recovery time, so the work has been slow. However, we were able to complete the design for our Thorsen Table Challenge project. Now, as with the weather, we should be transitioning to production in May.

So, as we begin May, we say bring on the flowers and bring on the work!

Shop Notes

The Artist Painting Table for our local artist was delivered on April 5. We have updated the website to include pictures of this table.

Our next project is the Thorsen Table Challenge. This is a chance to build an interpretation of the Arts and Crafts style table that was built for the Thorsen House. You can read more about this at the Lumberjocks web site.

After the table, our next projects include the print stand based on a Frank Lloyd Wright design, a small storage rack, and a candle sconce. These status of these projects will be updated in our next newsletter.

Looking further out, we still have plans to build an Adirondack chair, as well as a few additional tables. Details about these projects will appear in the newsletter as they begin.

The Artist Painting Table description and pictures have now been posted to our website.

We are also working on a line of gift related items to introduce in the spring of 2007.

In the meantime, be sure to check our web site for pictures of all the items built to date.

Our list of recommended projects has not grown recently, but is still quite a list. While we are working on our smaller product line, we will finalize the designs for our planters, cutting boards, storage boxes, shelves, and other home decorating items.

If you have any additional product recommendations, send your suggestions to  Hopefully, we will be able to build most of these items in 2007.

As always, we like to thank you for reading our newsletter. If you have any suggestions on items you would like to see added to the newsletter, please let us know at

Until next month, stay well and enjoy.
